Yeah, I’ve commented several times on the dichotomy between the art and the human being behind it. I have no doubt I’ll have a number of people talking smack about me after I’m gone, and I really don’t mind all that much. If someone stands up at my memorial and says “RIP, Jackass,” I’ll probably be content.

Oh man — Dragonquest? I’d totally forgotten about that one. I was a huge SPI supporter back in the day and was disappointed when TSR bought them out then ran them into the ground. I still have a few of their old games but, lamentably not Dragonquest

Nostalgic. I started RPGing just prior to these attitude romps of his really gained steam. Playing for roughly a year of D&D. Found (in my view) a much more satisfying game in Dragonquest. Upon learning that his company had killed this wonder, feelings of distaste (at best) confirmed and hardened.

One theme I seem to have picked up from your article seems to relate to the discussion of “creators” in a historical sense.That creation is a singular and static act(only he/she could have been the creator , only then could it have been done)

I do have to say thank you for this piece and should you have had a desire to condense it it could maybe have been written thus: RIP (the personal and polite portion). Jackass (the judgement of posterity portion).
